If your report is showing strange writing, it should still be in .csv format, here's how to fix the preview.

Accessing reports in Google Sheets

An easily accessible and freely available option is Google Sheets, found in the resource pack enabled when creating a Gmail account. In Google Sheets, the Kyte report opens with the columns already separated and shows accents and emojis correctly.

  1. To access your spreadsheet, click on the Google app icon

  2. Select the Sheets option

  3. In the folder icon choose the option Uploads

  4. Browse your file

  5. Click Open

  6. As Google integrates all of its tools, more visual items like emojis will open more easily

💡 Did you export two or three reports at the same time? They come together in a .zip folder. First extract the folder, then upload each .csv file.

Converting reports in Microsoft Excel

The Kyte report is a .csv file, where the information is separated by commas. Some versions of Excel do not recognize the comma as a separator and show all the information in one column. To separate the columns:

⚠️ This conversion can only be done through Excel for computers because the version for cell phones and tablets does not have this function. On your phone, open the report in Google Sheets.

  1. Open your file in Excel

  2. Select the first column

  3. In the header choose the menu Data

  4. Click on the Text to Columns tab and a window with 3 steps will appear:

    • Keep Delimited selected on first page

    • Change from Tab to Comma on second page

    • Select the Text option on the third

  5. Click on Finish to preview the new formatting

My worksheet displayed symbols instead of letters

The symbols appear when Excel opens the .csv report without recognizing the UTF-8 encoding, which is used for accents and emojis. For example, Crème Brûlée can appear as Crème Brûlée. To fix this, you need to import the report in Excel for computer, and not open it directly:

  1. To avoid these errors, open Excel

  2. Create a new blank workbook

  3. In the header click on Data

  4. On the Get External Data tab, select Get Text Data

  5. Choose your file

  6. Click Import

  7. A window with 3 steps will appear:

    • Keep Delimited selected on the first page and make sure the selected file source is 65001 : Unicode (UTF-8)

    • Change from Tab to Comma on second page

    • Keep the General option on the third

  8. Click on Finish to preview the new formatting

The cents look wrong in the spreadsheet

The Kyte .csv report uses a comma as the decimal separator. How the cents appear depends on the country set in your spreadsheet. If the spreadsheet is set to a country that uses a dot for cents, the values can appear without cents or multiplied by 100. To fix this, set the comma as the decimal separator when you open the file.


In Excel for computer

  1. Open the report in Excel and select the first column

  2. In the Data menu, click Text to Columns

  3. In the first step, keep Delimited. In the second step, check Comma

  4. In the third step, click Advanced and choose the comma as the decimal separator

  5. Click Finish

In Google Sheets

  1. Open File and then Settings

  2. In Locale, choose your country and save

  3. Import the Kyte report. The cents will appear correctly

⚠️ This fix in Excel only works in Excel for computer. On your phone, open the report in Google Sheets.
